I was born in Inverclyde and have lived here most of my life. After finishing high school in Port Glasgow I studied at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, followed by various roles within Clydesdale Bank and Natwest Bank, studying and passing my CeMap in my own time. During this time my mum and dad had established Dillon Mortgages and needed another adviser to support the demand for their business. In September 2022 I decided to take the leap to join the family business as a Mortgage and Protection Broker.
Patience is an important value as sometimes when people come in for their first appointment, they are months or years away from being in the right circumstances to get a mortgage. So, we stick with these clients offering them support and advice to get them to the position where they are ready.
Problem solving is another major factor as every person we speak to has a whole different set of circumstances to someone else meaning we have to work hard to find them the right solution with a lender that suits their individual needs. This can include speaking to each individual bank to understand their criteria fully to see if our clients application would be considered.
Empathy is a value that is important now more than ever – we see people in some really difficult financial situations and so approaching these clients with respect and empathy is so important to make them feel safe speaking to us and so they believe we will do our best to support them.
I have a very hyperactive cockapoo puppy called Thor who takes up lots of my attention. I love to spend time with him and my fiancée taking Thor big walks and to the park to run about. Family time is also so important to me so I try and make sure we spend our free time at the weekends seeing all our family.
My goals for my career is to be an instrumental part of Dillon Mortgages growth. After recently being promoted to one of the Directors of the business I am keen to head up projects and marketing campaigns to build the business and our online presence. When my parents retire I will step up to run the business and so the time and work I am putting into our business now will be building my future career.
In my personal life we have just bought our first home together so our next goal is to get married in the next couple of years and from there start our own family.
Technology is vital in our business as it is how we record all of our work and conduct the research required. More recently we have invested in our customer portal which allows customers to provide all their information to us before our initial appointment which saves us time and allows us to do some initial research to make that initial appointment more beneficial. This is all part of our goal to provide a very smooth customer journey. One of my roles is also the business’ social media manager so I spend a lot of time working on content so we can build our online platform. This helps our name get onto people’s newsfeeds and our aim for this content is to act as a consistent reminder of who we are and the services we offer.
